Comeback Falls Short as Gauchos Drop 72-63 Decision at UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) - Ryan Moore had 21 points and 10 rebounds to help UC Davis beat UC Santa Barbara 72-63 Thursday night.

Fowzi Abdelsamad had 13 points and Phil Rasmussen added 11 for the Aggies (9-14), who had lost eight straight to the Gauchos since beating them in their first meeting ever in 1939.

Josh Davis had 13 points and eight rebounds, and Alex Harris and Michael Chambers added 12 points apiece for UCSB (8-13).

UC Davis made six 3-point shots to finish the first half with a 32-21 lead.

Ryan Moore's 3-point basket gave UC Davis a 53-31 margin midway through the second half. The Gauchos came back with a 27-11 run of their own to cut UC Davis' lead to 64-58 after Joe See made one of two free throws with 1:24 remaining.

Despite a few turnovers late in the game, the Aggies made eight of 10 free throws in the last 1:22 to hold on to the victory.
