Gauchos Are Down And Out Against Cal State Northridge

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jonathan Heard scored a career-high 19 points as Cal State Northridge beat UC Santa Barbara 70-50 on Sunday.

Calvin Chitwood came off the bench to add a career-high 15 points for Northridge (4-7, 2-1 Big West), which never trailed. Davin White added 13 points off the bench.

Alex Harris led UC Santa Barbara (4-6, 2-1) with 13 points. Casey Cook, the team's leading scorer at 12 points per game, injured his ankle in the first half and did not return.

The Matadors shot 55.6 percent in the first half and used runs of 17-3 and 11-3 to take a 37-18 lead at the half. Northridge never led by less than 16 in the second.

Northridge, which leads all NCAA Division I teams with 12.6 steals per game, got 16 off the Gauchos.

Cook's injury could leave Santa Barbara with just eight healthy players. Cecil Brown and Chris Devine are already out with injuries.
