Joe Nagy is in his second season as UC Santa Barbara's Director of Men's Basketball Operations. Nagy's duties at UCSB include the coordination of fundraising events and the administration of the Gaucho Hoop Club, summer, fall, and spring basketball camps and clinics, assisting in the oversight of player's academic affairs and coordination of the team's strength and conditioning program. Nagy arrived at UCSB with a solid coaching background. A native of the Bay Area, he was the first-ever head coach at Hercules High School in Richmond, Calif., during the 2001-02 season. In 2002-03, he was the head coach at Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek, Calif., guiding that program to its first 20-win season in recent years and a 13-1 conference record. In 2000-01, Nagy spent a season as an assistant coach at De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif. In that one year - with former Gaucho guard Joe See as one of its key players - De La Salle won a state championship. In 1998-99, he spent one season as the top assistant coach and scouting director at his alma mater, Clayton Valley High School in Concord, Calif. Nagy has complemented his coaching experience at the high school level by working numerous camps all over the country, including Duke and North Carolina. He also founded his own basketball camp company in the Bay Area, Blue Chip Basketball Camp. As a player at Diablo Valley College, he earned the reputation as a relentless competitor. Nagy brings that same relentless style and enthusiasm to the court as a coach. In 2003, Nagy co-founded Total Sports Management, a sports management company. He also spent one year, 2002-03, as a financial advisor at American Express Financial Advisors/Prudential Securities. Nagy earned his BA in communication studies from Westmont College in 1998.
