Hurdle prepped at Helix High School where he had a tremendous senior seasons...Led Helix to the CIF San Diego Section Division I championship as an unseeded team...Helix finished the year with a 25-6 record and in the championship game against the top-seeded team it recorded a 77-42 victory...Hurdle averaged 24.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game...He made 50.5% of his field goal attempts and 75.1% of his free throw attempts...After not making a three-point basket during his junior season, Hurdle made 34 as a senior...In addition to all of his other accomplishments, he blocked 30 shots from his backcourt position...Scored a career-high of 37 points against Granite Hills HS as a senior...Also had highs of 12 rebounds (vs. Valhalla HS) and 12 assists (vs. Enterprise HS)...Made four three-point baskets in a game twice...Following his final season, Hurdle was chosen First Team All-San Diego County, First Team All-East County, First Team All-CIF, First Team All-Grossmont South League, First Team Division I All-State and Third Team All-State...Hurdle was also selected CIF San Diego Section Division I Player of the Year, Grossmont South League co-Player of the Year and East County co-Player of the Year...Helix also advanced to the California State Tournament following Hurdle's senior season...Averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game as a junior, helping Helix to a Grossmount South League title and an appearance in the CIF Playoffs...As a sophomore, Hurdle averaged 7.0 points and 4.0 assists per game and Helix advanced to the CIF San Diego Section championship game and to the state tournament...Coached by John Singer. Lance Hurdle was born April 15, 1987 in Camden, N.J....He was a member of the San Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Team and he was an Avid Student...Hurdle was chosen Helix High School's Male Athlete of the Year in 2005...The son of Sandra and Kevin Welch...Nicknamed L-Boogie...His most memorable sports moment was winning the CIF San Diego Section Division I Championship in 2005...His favorite teams include the New Jersey Nets, Dallas Cowboys and, of course, the Gauchos...Favorite movies include Love Don't Cost a Think, Drum Line, Coach Carter and Blue Chips...Martin and Fresh Prince are his favorite television shows...Michael Jordan, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter are his favorite athletes...Hoping to someday own a business, Hurdle plans to major in business economics and minor in sport management.
