Position: | Director of Academic Affairs and Internal Operations |
David Campbell is in his 11th season as part of the UC Santa
Barbara staff. His duties include overseeing all of the program's
academic and internal operations.
Campbell will be in charge of monitoring the academic progress of
all Gaucho players, he will act as the liaison between the
basketball program and admissions, and he will organize all road
trips.
Campbell and Williams spent two seasons together as assistant
coaches at Pepperdine, and in 2001, they were reunited on the
Gaucho coaching staff.
Campbell arrived at UCSB after spending one season as the top
assistant coach at Loyola Marymount. He joined the Loyola Marymount
staff after taking a year off from coaching. Prior to his year away
from coaching, he spent five seasons (1994-99) as the Associate
Head Coach to Tom Asbury at Kansas State. During his tenure at
Kansas State, he helped steer the Wildcats to three postseason
appearances. As Asbury's top assistant, Campbell signed some of the
best recruiting classes in Kansas State history.
Before moving to the midwest, Campbell had a successful six-year
stint as an assistant coach at Pepperdine (1988-94), and that is
where he first teamed-up with Williams. In his six campaigns in
Malibu, Campbell helped guide the Waves to five postseason
appearances and he helped mentor three future NBA players.
Prior to his tenure at Pepperdine, Campbell coached one year
(1987-88) at Weber State, and before that, he spent six years
(1981-87) as an assistant coach at St. Mary's College.
Campbell also spent four seasons as a player at St. Mary's. In
1980, his senior campaign, he was named Honorable Mention All-West
Coast Conference, as he helped lead the Gaels to the league
championship.
Campbell,
perhaps the most rabid Oakland Athletics and Washington Redskins
fan in the Santa Barbara area, graduated from St. Mary's in 1980
with his bachelor's degree in business administration. He and his
wife Brenda reside in Santa Barbara.
