Boswell Among Final 30 Candidates for 2014 Senior CLASS Award

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara guard Kyle Boswell has been selected as one of the final 30 candidates for the 2013-14 Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Wednesday.

Candidates for the Senior CLASS Award must be a senior on an NCAA Division I team. The final 30 candidates were selected from a pool of more than 100 nationally. CLASS is an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School and the award is based on excellence in the areas of classroom, community, character and competition. It focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impace as leaders in their communities.

"Kyle is well-deserving of being on this exclusive list," said UCSB head coach Bob Williams. "His dedication in the classroom and on the court, as well as his character and his participation in our community service projects make him a great candidate for the Senior CLASS Award."

As a junior, Boswell averaged 13.0 points and 2.0 rebounds per game for the Gauchos. He was the team's top three-point shooting threat, making 78 on the season, the third most in school history. Following the year he was selected the Big West Conference's Sixth Man of the Year and Honorable Mention All-Big West.

In the classroom, Boswell has a 3.81 GPA with a major in mechanical engineering. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society which indicates that he is in the top-eighth of his class. During the summer of 2013, he and a partner finished second in the annual Lego Robo-Rats competition which challenges mechanical engineering students to create a Legos-based cheese-seeking "mouse."

Boswell was UCSB's Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012-13, is a two-time Academic All-Big West selection and a two-time UCSB Golden Eagle Award-winner for academic excellence.

A Team Captain for the Gauchos, Boswell volunteered to become the team's sixth man to help improve the bench in 2012-13. In his first three seasons at UCSB he has overcome Achilles and shoulder injuries to become one of the top players on the team an in the Big West Conference.

Boswell and the rest of the UCSB men's basketball team will tip-off the 2013-14 season on Sunday, Nov. 3 when they host Cal State East Bay in an exhibition game that will tip-off at 2:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome.

Great season ticket packages are available for the Gauchos. The non-conference schedule includes Cal, which will be making its first appearance in Santa Barbara since it helped christen the Thunderdome in 1979, as well as old rival Utah State and 2013 NCAA Tournament participant South Dakota State.
