SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara men's basketball team is featured at least four times, and possibly eight, in the 2012-13 Big West television package. In addition, at least three other Gauchos games will be televised on a variety of regional networks and all Big West Tournament games will be aired as well.
"The more games we have on television the better," said UCSB head coach Bob Williams. "Almost all exposure is good exposure and as the Big West continues to evolve and grow, TV becomes an even more important piece of the puzzle."
UCSB will make its first of at least two appearances on ESPNU when it travels to Cal State Fullerton for the Big West Conference opener on Dec. 29. The other guaranteed appearance on ESPNU will be the Gauchos' Jan. 30 game at Long Beach State, a rematch of the last three league tournament title games.
In addition to the games against the Titans and 49ers, UCSB's Feb. 23 BracketBuster game could be aired, and its Mar. 7 Thunderdome appearance against Fullerton is one of two league games under consideration to be broadcast on ESPN2.
The ESPN family of networks will also carry both Big West Tournament semifinal games and the championship game. The final will be aired on ESPN2
In addition, two UCSB home games against rivals have been chosen to air on Fox Sports Prime Ticket: Jan. 5 vs. Long Beach State and Jan. 19 vs. Cal Poly. Two others, Mar. 2 at Cal State Northridge and at home on Mar. 9 vs. UC Riverside, are both in the mix as "wild card" games and either or both could be on Fox Sports West.
Prime Ticket will also carry all four Big West Tournament quarterfinal games on Mar. 14.
UCSB also has at least three other games that will be broadcast regionally. Time Warner Cable Sportsnet will air the Gauchos game at San Diego State on Dec. 6 while the Pac 12 Networks will broadcast their Dec. 18 game at Cal. On Feb. 28, when Santa Barbara visits Hawai'i, the game will be aired on OC16 Sports, the Rainbow Warriors television network.
2012-13 will mark the first season with Hawai'i as a Big West Conference member. In 2013-14, the league will experience even more transition as it loses Pacific to the West Coast Conference, but adds powerhouse San Diego State and Boise State. That year, the league's contract with FOX Sports Networks expands dramatically. Read about the agreement between the Big West and Fox by clicking here.
The Gaucho men's team opens the season on Nov. 1 with an exhibition game against La Verne University. The regular season home schedule will open on Sat. Nov. 17 against The Master's College. The UCSB women will host Vanguard in an exhibition on Nov. 5 before opening the regular season at home against New Mexico State on Nov. 9.
In addition to the televised games, all UCSB men's and women's home games and all conference games will be streamed live on BigWest.TV.
Season tickets for both the men's and women's teams are available from the Ticket Office in the Intercollegiate Athletics Building on campus, by calling 805-893-UCSB (8272) or online by clicking here for men's season tickets and here for women's season tickets.
