UCSB Athletics Announces a 'Night With An Angel'
Dec. 22, 2010
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - On Friday, Jan. 28 UC Santa Barbara will continue its tradition of opening the college baseball season with another exclusive engagement to help benefit UCSB baseball. This year's event will feature another former Dodger great - current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia. The event is tabbed as "A Night with an Angel."
Much like last year's highly successful evening with Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda, the dinner event will continue to earmark upgrades to UCSB's Caesar Uyesaka Stadium, home to both the Gauchos and the Santa Barbara Foresters, who play in the summer wood bat California Collegiate League.
The Gauchos recently installed a new infield turf surface for the 2011 season along with numerous other improvements. Along with Scioscia, the event will include the introduction of the 2011 Gaucho squad and remarks by Foresters manager Bill Pintard. The night will be hosted by the latest addition to the UCSB broadcast team, Josh Suchon, who is also the pre and postgame radio voice for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"A Night with an Angel" will give fans an intimate opportunity to share an evening with one of baseball's biggest stars. Space is limited and seats can be reserved now with a minimal deposit. An auction will be included in the night's activities.
Former UCSB alums, including several in professional baseball, will also be in attendance. UCSB proudly sends several student-athletes to the professional ranks each season joining former Gaucho standouts like St. Louis Cardinals infielder Skip Schumaker, Cincinnati Reds shortstop Chris Valaika, Colorado Rockies outfielder Ryan Spilborghs and Michael Young, a six-time All-Star and a member of the American League champion Texas Rangers. Young, who is featured in the latest issue of DARE magazine, was also the named 2008 MLB Man of the Year and won a Gold Glove at shortstop that same season.
The Gauchos and Foresters alumni also fill the ranks of minor league baseball each year.
