SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Former Gaucho right-hander Virgil Vasquez played an integral part in the success of the Phoenix Desert Dogs of the Arizona Fall League. The Desert Dogs (consisting of prospects from the Athletics, Devil Rays, Blue Jays, Tigers and Reds) captured their third straight championship on November 18 by defeating the Grand Canyon Rafters, 6-2, in front of 1,181 fans at Scottsdale Stadium.
Vasquez held the Rafters hitless through the first four innings en route to earning the win. The Santa Barbara, Calif. native was slated to throw 75 pitches in the contest, but struggled to complete the fifth inning due to cramping in his leg and fingers.
