Oct. 15, 2004

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Beginning with a three game series against West Coast Conference Tournament champion Pepperdine, the UC Santa Barbara baseball team's 2005 schedule will be highlighted by 21 games against 2004 NCAA Tournament teams.

The 56-game schedule will feature 30 games slated to be played at UCSB's Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The Gauchos will begin their season on February 4 at home against Pepperdine. The teams will play three contests on that opening weekend, with the Saturday game being played in Malibu.

Following the season opening three-games set against Pepperdine, the Gauchos will hit the road to face Western Athletic Conference opponent San Jose State (Feb. 11-13). UCSB will also play a road series at Fresno State (Feb. 18-20), another WAC opponent. The Gauchos will host USC (Feb. 22) and Oregon State (Feb. 25-27) to complete the season's first month.

UCSB will host the WCC's regular season champion Loyola Marymount, on March 11-13, and on March 24-26, the Gauchos will host the champions of the Mid-Continent Conference, Oral Roberts. Santa Barbara will play its only out-of-state series when it travels to Seattle to play Washington in a three-game series on March 4-6. UCSB opens Big West play at home against Pacific on April 1-3.

Another important series for UCSB includes a three-game set against UCLA on April 15-17, the final two of which will be played in Santa Barbara. The Gauchos will play its final non-conference game of the year on April 19 when they travel to USC.

On April 22-24, the Gauchos will open the Big West stretch drive against Central Coast-rival Cal Poly at home. From that point on, UCSB will play exclusively Big West opponents. Following the series against the Mustangs, the Gauchos will play two of their most difficult conference opponents on back-to-back weekends. The Gauchos will travel to 2004 College World Series champion Cal State Fullerton for a three-game series on April 29-30, and May 1, and then they will return home on May 6-8 to host 2004 Super Regional participant Long Beach State.

UCSB's final home series of the season, May 20-22, will be against the league's third NCAA Tournament representative UC Irvine. The Gauchos will also play road series at UC Riverside (May 13-15), a 2003 NCAA Tournament participant, and Cal State Northridge (May 27-29).
