SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - After a tremendous showing for the Rockville Express in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League this summer, UC Santa Barbara sophomore catcher Steve Domecus was named to the All-League Team, it was announced last week. Domecus was also listed seventh on the Top 2007 CRSCBL Prospects List released recently by Baseball America.
The Navato, Calif. native was listed as the fifth-best prospect on the PG Crosschecker's Top CRSCBL Prospects list.
After hitting just .216 with seven runs scored and three homers as a freshman last season for the Gauchos, Domecus hit .252 (26-for-103) with 24 runs, two doubles, and 26 RBI in 30 games for Rockville this summer. He showed above-average power potential tying for the league lead in home runs with six and won the annual home run derby at the all-star game in July.
Scouts have also been impressed with the 6-foot-3, 205 catcher's skills behind the plate, as Domecus is said to have above-average catch-and-throw potential.
