Former Gauchos Compete In Single-A Baseball All-Star Game

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Former UC Santa Barbara baseball players James Garcia and Jeff Bannon were participants in this year's California League vs. Carolina League All-Star Game.

Garcia, who plays for the San Jose team in the San Francisco Giants organization, hurled one hitless inning, and Bannon, who plays for the Cincinnati Reds Potomac team in the Carolina League, also participated.

In addition to their respective appearances in the Single-A All-Star game, Garcia was selected as the San Francisco Giants organization Single-A Pitcher of the Month of May. In May, Garcia posted a 2-0 record with a 1.80 earned run average. in eight dominant outings out of the San Jose bullpen, the Torrance, Calif. native posted a 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, fanning 25 while issuing just eight walks in 20 innings. Opponents batted just .183 against Garcia.
