Chuck Huggins threw a complete game shutout as UCSB finished its three-game sweep of USC Sunday with a 6-0 victory at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
Huggins, a senior left-hander, scattered five hits while striking out seven and walking three. The Redwood City, Calif. native improved to 7-1 on the year with the win. He sports a 3.47 ERA with a team-leading 59 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched. Huggins has surrendered just 47 hits and 17 walks and opponents are batting .226 against him.
It was the second complete game of the series as sophomore Mike Ford went the distance in Friday's 6-4 victory.
UCSB had never swept a three-game set against the Trojans under head coach Bob Brontsema.
The Gauchos (27-11) play a non-conference game at Cal State Northridge Tuesday before heading to Cal Poly for three Big West games starting Friday.
