Baseball Hopes To Bounce Back In Upcoming Makeup Games
March 1, 2000
A Week In Review
The Gauchos faced Pepperdine University on Friday and Saturday, and the rain defeated both teams on Sunday. Pepperdine took it to the Gauchos on Friday, knocking UCSB pitchers for 20 hits and 17 runs. The final ended up, 17-9. Saturday's game was more like a baseball game, than a football game. The game was tied, 4-4, going into the bottom of the tenth, and Pepperdine third baseman, Duke Sardinha knocked a three run home run over the left field fence to win it for the Waves, 7-4. Sunday's game was rained out, and no makeup date has been announced.
Neboyia Pitches Well Once Again
Once again, senior, Gabe Neboyia pitched well enough for a win. Neboyia threw 7.2 innings of seven hit ball, allowing only three runs while striking out three and not allowing a single walk. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not hold the lead, and Neboyia was not involved in the decision. Overall, Neboyia is 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA. He leads the Gauchos with 32.2 innings while striking out 21 batters.
Molidor Still Leading the Offensive Attack
Third Baseman, Dave Moldidor is one of the reasons that the Gauchos are doing well offensively. He's batting .320, with a team leading 16 hits, three home runs, 15 RBI and a .600 slugging percentage. Molidor was selected as a preseason all-conference selection third baseman.
Gaucho ERA Skyrockets
The Gaucho pitching staff came into the Pepperdine series with a respectable 4.65 ERA. The left the series with a ballooned 5.69 ERA. The Gauchos allowed 24 runs, 23 of which were earned.
Peshke Improving After Slow Start
Chad Peshke, a junior second base man from Redondo Beach started out slow on the offensive side. Going into the weekend series, Peshke was batting a meager .256. Peshke went 4-for-7 against Pepperdine and improved his batting average to .300. He is second on the team with 15 hits and leads the team with six doubles.
The Week Ahead
The Gauchos are trying to makeup their Loyola Marymount game rained out earlier in the season. The Gauchos have tentatively rescheduled the game for Wednesday March 1. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. In addition to Wednesday's game, the Gauchos are also looking to makeup a game against Westmont this Thursday in Montecito. Aside from these possible makeup dates, the Gauchos will not play another scheduled opponent until March 6 when they host Cal Lutheran at 2:00 pm. Following that, they will travel to Arizona to play the Wildcats March 10-12.
