UC Santa Barbara head baseball coach Bob Brontsema won an award on Friday for the second straight year during the second annual NCAA Baseball Coaches Cook-Off during the SoCal Media Day at ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney in Anaheim.
Brontsema was one of 11 coaches at the event, which represented schools from the Big West, Pac-10, Mountain West and West Coast conferences.
Brontsema, entering his 17th season at the helm of the Gauchos, took home the award for "Best Presentation" for the second straight year. He made a dish of garlic buttered fettuccine with chicken and special herbs and spices. The dish included red peppers, which Brontsema used to spell out "UCSB" along the edge of the dish.
The Gauchos coach used a similar technique last year to also capture the "Best Presentation."
"If you've got the closer, you've got to go with it," Brontsema said.
Coaches teamed with an ESPN Zone chef to prepare an entree in a 20-minute time period and present their creations to a panel of judges. The dishes were graded on presentation, creativity, and most importantly taste. Along with competing for top honors in all three categories the coveted "Top Chef" honor was also awarded for the highest overall score.
Brontsema and his UCSB baseball program are proud to welcome legendary Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda on Friday, Feb. 5 for an exclusive dinner. Space is limited and tickets are going fast, so click here to part of an unforgettable evening.
