May 14, 2004
STOCKTON, Calif. - Aaron Harper's one-out sacrifice fly with the bases loaded in the bottom of the tenth inning gave the University of Pacific a 4-3 victory over UC Santa Barbara Friday afternoon at Billy Hebert Field. The loss snaps the Gauchos' eight game winning streak and drops their record to 31-18 and 8-8 in the Big West.
Tiger reliever Josh Schmidt (4-3) picked up the victory after tossing two scoreless and hitless innings of relief. Nate Holguin suffered the defeat for UCSB, putting the winning run aboard after a lead-off hit in the tenth. Loren Fraser relieved Holguin with the bases loaded in the final inning and surrendered the game-winning sacrifice fly.
Pacific scored twice in the first and never trailed. After UCSB knotted the game in the fifth, the Tigers scored again in the sixth only to have the Gauchos tie it again in the eighth. UCSB put a runner on second with nobody out in its half of the tenth but could not score.
Pacific is now 18-29 and 4-12 in conference.
