Santa Barbara, Calif. - The University of the Pacific Tigers (26-24, 5-12) brought their 'A' game on Saturday. The UC Santa Barbara (22-27, 5-12) pitching staff brought their 'BB' game. Handing out eight walks, including five by starter Michael Martin (2-3), Gaucho pitching kept putting on base runners for the Tigers, who responded with a 7-5 victory.

Santa Barbara pushed two runs across in the first inning with out collecting a hit. Brian Adams walked and Nate Sutton was hit by a pitch to lead things off. Josh McCanne brought in Adams with a ground out and Sutton scampered home on a wild pitch by Sergio Silva.

The early two run lead was erased in the third inning. With one out, Cory Lake singled up the middle to score two Pacific runners and tie the game at two.

UCSB took the lead again in the bottom of the inning with a Matt Wilkerson RBI groundout to score Nic Rodriguez. Rodriguez, the designated hitter for UCSB, had led the inning off with a single.

Pacific took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the fourth. Two walks and an RBI single chased Martin. Rich Sorenson came in for relief, but was just as ineffective. After a sacrifice fly scored another run, the next three batters reached base with a walk and two singles, giving UOP a 6-3 lead.

The Gauchos could only muster single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Rodriguez once again led off an inning with a single and scored when Wilkerson lifted a sacrifice fly to right field. Brian Adams completed the Gaucho scoring with a two-out solo home run in the sixth. The blast was his fourth on the year, tying him for second on the team.

Silva (5-7) pitched five innings for the victory. He allowed three earned runs, giving up four hits and four walks. The junior righty also struck out four Gaucho batters.

Andy Willick pitched the final five outs to record his team-leading seventh save on the year. Willick didn't allow a single base hit, only Rodriguez reached base with a walk.

UOP's 1-4 hitters were a combined 9-for-18 with five walks, four runs scored and five RBI. Lake, the cleanup hitter, lead the way with three hits and three RBI. Eric Elliott was very productive in the lead-off slot, reaching base five times with a double, a single, three walks and two runs scored.

Rodriguez and Bill Rowe collected two hits for the Gauchos. Rodriguez and Adams scored twice.

The loss dropped UCSB into a tie with UOP for seventh place in the Big West.
