Cal State Fullerton Completes the Sweep With a 16-2 Victory Over the Gauchos

FULLERTON, Calif. -
Juniors Bill Rowe and Chris Webber each tallied an RBI as the UC Santa Barbara baseball team (19-25, 1-8) was defeated easily by No. 2 Cal State Fullerton (30-11, 12-1), 16-2, completing a three-game Big West Conference sweep for the Titans.
The defending national champions scored 16 runs off 20 hits and scored over half their runs (9) in the bottom the fifth inning. Shortstop Blake Davis led the Cal State Fullerton offense with four hits and four RBI. Starting pitcher Scott Saver (7-2) earned the victory as the tossed 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and one run (unearned) while striking out nine.
The Gauchos amassed their first run in the top of the fourth inning as Rowe hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring freshman shortstop Alden Carrithers on the play.
Webber, inserted in the game for Rowe in the sixth inning accounted for the second Santa Barbara run as he hit and RBI single in the top of the eighth.
UCSB starting pitcher Andy Graham (4-5) picked-up the loss as he allowed nine hits and eight runs (four unearned) runs in 4.1 innings of work.
The Gauchos have now lost a season-high seven straight games and have been swept in back-to-back Big West Conference sets.
UCSB returns to action as it hosts Long Beach State for a three-game Big West series beginning Friday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium. The game is slated for a 2:00 pm first pitch. The series will continue on Saturday and Sunday with 1:00 pm scheduled games.
