Baseball Whiffed By Cal State Fullerton, 6-1
April 28, 2000
Fullerton, Calif. - Adam Johnson fanned 14 Gaucho batters to become the Cal State Fullerton All-time strikeout leader in school history and pick up his fifth win on the season. With the win, Fullerton gains one game on the Gauchos and improves their record to 26-14 overall and 14-5 in the Big West. With the loss, the Gauchos fall to three games out of first place in the Big West at 11-8 and a 21-20 overall record.
The Gauchos jumped out with the early lead in the first. With two outs, Chad Peshke sent a shot well over the left field fence for his second home run on the seoson and gave the Gauchos an early 1-0 lead. This would be the only time the Gauchos would smell the lead as the Titans put up a three spot in their half of the first and held onto the lead from that point on.
In addition to their three in the first, the Titans put two more runs on the board in the fourth and capped off the game with one more in the seventh.
For the Gauchos, they could not manage to any type of rally off of Johnson. He quited the Gaucho bats to only five hits on the night while walking two and tying his season high with 14 strikeouts in the game.
Gabe Neboyia pitched well for the Gauchos as he went the distance allowing 11 hits, six runs(five earned), walking one and striking out six Titan batters. With the loss, Neboyia falls to 4-6 on the season.
The Gauchos and Titans will battle again tomorrow at 7:00 pm at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, CA.
