SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
Third baseman Nate Sutton belted his fourth home run of the season and shortstop Josh Fulton collected three hits, but it wasn't enough as UC Santa Barbara dropped its series-finale to Long Beach State, 9-3.
The loss drops the Gauchos to 19-24 overall and 2-10 in the Big West. The 5th-ranked 49ers improve to 29-13 overall and 9-3 in league.
Long Beach scored three runs in the second inning and three more in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Cesar Ramost posted the win for the 49ers, he is now 3-4. Sean Thompson went six innings for the Gauchos, allowing five earned runs on ten hits. Thompson dropped to 5-5 on the season.
UCSB returns to the diamond this weekend for a three-game league series at Cal State Northridge.
