SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Junior center fielder Matt Emerick went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run scored and junior catcher Josh LaGrotta, making his first start behind the plate this season, went 1-for-4 with three RBI as the UC Santa Barbara baseball team (16-14) defeated its cross-town rival Westmont (3-23) 20-6 on Tuesday afternoon at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

Westmont jumped out to an early lead as they scored three runs off UCSB sophomore starting pitcher Brian Tracy. The lead did not last very long as the Gauchos put nine runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning.

After taking an early six-run lead, Santa Barbara never looked back as it posted 11 more throughout the game.

Junior left fielder Chris Caraballo, also making his first start of the season, went 2-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Freshman second baseman Alden Carrithers and junior designated hitter Jack Pinkerton each tallied two RBI.

Gaucho starter Tracy hurled 3.2 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) and five hits. Sophomore reliever Justin Segal (1-1) entered the game for Tracy and picked-up his first win of the season by tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. Alex McRobbie, Andrew Schoneberger and Nate Holguin each made one-inning appearances out of the Gaucho bullpen.

Westmont starting pitcher Ryan McGill (1-2) lost his second game of the 2005 campaign.

The Gauchos hit the road next weekend as they travel up to face UC Davis in a three-game set. Friday's series opener is scheduled for a 2:30 pm first pitch. The games on Saturday, April 9 and on Sunday, April 10 are both slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
