Baseball Loses A Heartbreaker To The Waves
Feb. 26, 2000
Malibu, CA - Pepperdine University defeated UC Santa Barbara, 7-4 on Saturday afternoon in Malibu. The Gauchos drop to 7-6 on the season, while the Waves improve to 7-7.
Gabe Neboyia started for the Gauchos and pitched a great game for 7.2 innings. He allowed seven hits and three runs, while striking out four and not allowing a walk. Neboyia was not involved in the decision, as Chris Quiroz came in relief of Neboyia and pitched 1.2 innings and surrendered the clinching blow in the bottom of the tenth, a three run blast to Duke Sardinha.
The Gauchos never really got on track offensively. They were only able to produce four hits, one of those hits came off the bat of Dave Molidor, which cleared the left field fence and brought in three Gaucho players with his first grand slam of the season.
The grand slam put the Gauchos ahead in the sixth inning by a score of 4-1, but the Waves were able to bounce back in the eighth with three runs of their own to tie the ballgame.
Quiroz falls to 1-2, while Pepperdine reliever, Noah Lowry improves to 2-1.
The Gauchos will try to get back to the winning ways on Sunday, February 27 at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium with a start time of 1:00 pm.
