After spending three years as the Gauchos Assistant Baseball Strength and Conditioning Coach, Matt Harvey is in his fourth season as the the program's pitching and catching coach. During his time with the Gauchos, the program has gone an impressive 204-139-3 (.595 winning percentage) including three trips to the NCAA Regionals and the school's first-ever College World Series berth in 2016.

In conjunction with head coach Andrew Checketts, he manages the pitching staff and is in charge of the catchers. He also helps direct the Gaucho Baseball Academy camps and clinics while serving as Co-Camp Coordinator.

With his help, the UCSB pitching staff recorded one of the best seasons in program history in 2015. As a group, the Gauchos recorded team records in both ERA (2.45) and strikeouts (475) en route to a 40-win season and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. After the season, seven Gaucho hurlers were selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft, including Dillon Tate, who with the No. 4 overall pick was simultaneously the first pitcher selected in the 2015 draft and the highest-ever UCSB draftee.

Harvey has spent two summers in the Northwoods League as an assistant for the Wisconsin Woodchucks in 2014 and as an assistant for the Rochester Honkers in 2012. As a Woodchuck, he coached third base and worked with both pitchers and position players. During his summer with the Honkers, Harvey led the pitching staff. 

Harvey was a member of the University of Nebraska baseball program from 2008-11. He graduated in May 2011 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.

Harvey and his wife Quinn currently reside in Santa Barbara.
