SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Emily Holland, the Assistant Director of Baseball Operations and Marketing at the University of Washington last season, has been hired as UC Santa Barbara's Director of Baseball Operations (DBO), it was announced by head coach Andrew Checketts. In conjunction with the hire, Dylan Jones, who served as the DBO for UCSB since August 2017, has been promoted to Volunteer Assistant Coach.
Holland is the third addition to the Gauchos' staff this offseason, joining Associate Head Coach Donegal Fergus, with whom she worked closely with while at Washington, and Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator Matt Fonteno from Saint Mary's (Calif.).
"We're very excited to have Emily as a part of our staff here at UCSB," said Checketts. "Not only does she bring valuable experience from her time at Washington, but her positive attitude, work ethic and passion for the game will be a welcome addition to our program."
Holland got her start in baseball as a Corporate Partnership Services and Marketing Intern with the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, while simultaneously serving as a Recruiting Intern with the Huskies in the fall of 2017. She quickly ascended to the Assistant Director of Operations and Marketing by January, where she played an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the staff.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity Coach Checketts has given me to be a part of Gaucho Baseball," said Holland. "I'm excited to learn from the country's most respected coaches and I can't wait to see how far we can go with the elite talent we have on the field."
Holland recently completed her master's degree of education in intercollegiate athletic leadership in June and received her bachelor of arts in sociology from Loyola Marymount, where she spent three seasons as a student-athlete on the women's rowing team.
Jones, meanwhile, makes the move to Volunteer Assistant Coach after spending the past season as the Gauchos' Director of Ops.
"Dylan has been very diligent and hard-working in his time at UCSB and we're looking forward to expanding his role from a coaching aspect," Checketts said. "He has a high baseball IQ that will be a great resource for our staff and student-athletes."
Jones has a wealth of coaching experience beginning as an undergraduate assistant at Oregon State, following his collegiate career at OSU and professional playing career in Australia. With the Beavers, Jones worked alongside head coach Pat Casey to help OSU to the 2013 College World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The Portland, Ore. native has also spent coaching stints with the Medford Rogues, Kelowna Falcons, Bend Elks and Linn-Benton Community College, serving primarily as the team's pitching coach.
"I'm very grateful to Coach Checketts for this opportunity," Jones said. "I'm looking forward to working with our talented student-athletes and helping them be successful on and off the field."
