Save the Date: UCSB Baseball Announces Dates for 2014 Alumni Weekend
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara baseball team will hold its annual Alumni Weekend from Jan. 24-26, 2014, it was announced today by head coach Andrew Checketts. UCSB Baseball alumni are encouraged to circle your calendars and to save the date.
The 2014 edition of the popular annual event will feature a weekend filled with fun, friends, and baseball.
On Friday night, the Gauchos will host an alumni social event at a downtown Santa Barbara restaturant and will include hosted appetizers. All UCSB baseball alumni, Hammerheads, and families are invited to the event.
Saturday will feature the always-popular round of alumni golf, once again being held at the Glen Annie Golf Club in Goleta.
Finally, on Sunday alumni and their families are invited to Caesar Uyesaka Stadium, where the Gauchos will host a morning brunch followed by an afternoon home run derby or exhibition game.
Further details on the event will be unveiled later in fall. Discounted lodging options, hotel accommodations, and registration information will also be revealed as the event draws closer.
Last year's Alumni Weekend was a rousing success, highlighted by keynote speaker Ron Roenicke, manager of the Milwaukee Brewers and father of UCSB alum and Brewers prospect Lance Roenicke. Several prominent alumni such as Michael Young, Skip Schumaker, and Ryan Spilborghs were among those in attendance.
The 2014 season is shaping up to be one for the ages, as the Gauchos will return all but two starters to a squad that went 37-27 in 2013 en route to the program's first trip to the NCAA Regionals in over a decade. With junior Austin Pettibone leading the pitching staff and Tyler Kuresa anchoring a strong lineup, UCSB should be counted among the Big West's most feared teams.
