SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UCSB baseball team will be hosting walk-on tryouts for all students currently enrolled full-time at the school. The tryouts will be held at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium on the campus of UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In order to participate in the tryouts, students must email the baseball team at baseball@athletics.ucsb.edu prior to 12:00 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 4. After receipt of the email, students will be asked to provide the team with background and identification information.

Led by third year head coach Andrew Checketts, the Gauchos are coming off a 2013 season that was on the most successful in recent program history. The team went 16-6 to close out the regular season and earn a spot in the NCAA Regionals while finishing second in the Big West Conference, both firsts since the 2001 season. In the postseason, UCSB picked up its first Regional win in over a decade with a 6-4 defeat of Texas A&M.

The Gauchos will return a talented roster in 2014 including All-Conference talent in Austin Pettibone, Robby Nesovic, Woody Woodward, Joey Epperson, Dylan Hecht, Cameron Newell, Jackson Morrow, Andrew Vasquez, and Greg Mahle as well as exciting newcomers such as shortstop Brody Weiss and outfielder Josh Adams.
