• A Run is A Run
Entering the week, the Gauchos ranked third in the Big West Conference in runs scored despite
ranking in the bottom half of most offensive categories (sixth in batting average, seventh in slugging percentage). UCSB's offense has been buoyed by a high on-base percentage (.364, fourth in the Big West) and plenty of opportunistic hitting. As a team, the Gauchos are hitting .298 with runners in scoring position and have scored a runner from third with less than two outs in 64.1% of their opportunities. Luke Swenson (.414), Robby Nesovic (.407), Tyler Kuresa (.364), and Cameron Newell (.360) have all seen their batting averages go up with runners in scoring position.

• Keep Your Head Up
Entering the week, the Gauchos ranked second in the Big West Conference in hit by pitches (53)
and third in hit batters (32). UCSB ranks 12th in the nation in HBPs. Woody Woodward's nine hit
by pitches and Jackson Morrow's eight rank third and fourth in the conference, respectively, while
Andrew Vasquez has kept opposing lineups on alert with a team-high five hit batters.

• UCSB Against Ranked Opponents
So far in 2013, the Gauchos have compiled a 4-4 record against ranked opponents, with a series
win over No. 17 Cal Poly and a midweek win over No. 17 Notre Dame to go along with a series
loss to No. 20 Cal Poly and a midweek loss to No. 12 UCLA. UCSB's series win over the Mustangs
was their first over a ranked opponent since sweeping No. 4 Long Beach State, led by Jared Weaver, from Apr. 30 to May 2, 2004.

• The Teal Ribbon
During next weekend's Long Beach State series, the Gaucho players will wear a Teal Ribbon, representing UCSB's Sexual Assault Awareness Month. UCSB has dedicated the month of April to
increase awareness of sexual violence. The baseball team is showing their support and doing their part to raise awareness.

• Preseason Publicity
Following their stellar 2012 seasons, a pair of Gauchos were selected as Preseason All-Americans.
In December, sophomore LHP Andrew Vasquez was named to the Second Team by the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, while junior shortstop Brandon Trinkwon was named to
the Baseball America Second-Team. Brandon was also noted as the top defensive infielder in college baseball. In addition, the current UCSB freshman class was ranked as the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation by Baseball America, tops among all Big West schools and the first time the Gauchos had appeared on the list in school history. Perfect Game also pegged the recruiting class as No. 18 in the country.
