• Quick Starters
The 2013 season marks the third time since 2009 that the Gauchos have jumped out to
an 8-4 or better start.

• Digging for Gold
The current UCSB freshman class was ranked as the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation
by Baseball America, tops among all Big West schools. It was the first time the Gauchos
had appeared on the list in school history. It was also ranked No. 18 by Perfect Game, falling
just short of CSU Fullerton's No. 17 ranking among Big West schools. In all, there are
20 new faces on the 2013 squad, including 15 freshmen and five junior college transfers.

• Going Streaking
The Gauchos are currently on a season-best four game winning streak, something they
accomplished twice in 2012. UCSB hasn't won five straight since March 2010, when they
beat No. 24 Stanford, swept Northern Illinois in a four game series, and got win No. 6
over New Mexico State.

• Thick as Thieves
The Gauchos have got off to a running start in 2013, especially on the basepaths. Their
16 stolen bases and 23 attempts entering the week both ledd the conference. Four players (Woodward, Newell, Morrow, Swenson) lead the squad with three swipes apiece.

• Heads Up!
When watching UCSB Baseball, you are more than likely to see more than a few batters
get hit by pitches. The Gauchos' 26 hit batters ranks fifth in the nation so far in 2013.
UCSB pitchers also have a proclivity for plunking, as they have hit 14 batters. However,
since hitting five Bruins on 2/26, the Gauchos have allowed just one HBP in four games.

• Staying Up Late
The Gauchos have done the majority of their damage in the 7th inning and later so far this
season. UCSB has scored 22 runs in the 7th inning (8 in the fifth inning is the next highest
total). The Gauchos are outscoring their opponents 30-7 in the 7th inning and later.

• American Boys
Following their stellar 2012 seasons, a pair of Gauchos were selected as Preseason All-
Americans. In December, sophomore lefty Andrew Vasquez was named to the Second
Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association after recording a 1.93 ERA
as a freshman, the fourth best full-season ERA in school history. Junior SS Brandon Trinkwon
was named to the Baseball America Second-Team after hitting .347 as a sophomore
and starting the Cape Cod League All-Star Game. Brandon was also noted as the top
defensive infielder in college baseball.
