• Triples Galore
In Friday's win over USF, the Gauchos smacked three triples (Trinkwon, Kuresa, and Newell),
which tied a school record. UCSB has accomplished that feat three other times,
against USC on 5/22/12, vs. Marist on 2/23/08, and against Long Beach State on 2/26/66.

• Digging for Gold
The current UCSB freshman class was ranked as the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation
by Baseball America, tops among all Big West schools. It was the first time the Gauchos
had appeared on the list in school history. It was also ranked No. 18 by Perfect Game, falling
just short of CSU Fullerton's No. 17 ranking among Big West schools. In all, there are
20 new faces on the 2013 squad, including 15 freshmen and five junior college transfers.

• Thick as Thieves
The Gauchos have got off to a running start in 2013, especially on the basepaths. Their
14 stolen bases and 17 attempts both lead the conference, while their 82% success rate
ranks second. Woody Woodward and Luke Swenson lead the way with three swipes
apiece.

• Big Man on Campus
Sophomore 1B Tyler Kuresa was named a Big West player of the week nominee after
going 6-16 (.375) with a double, triple, home run, and stolen base over the weekend
series with USF. Kuresa leads the team and ranks 10th in the Big West with a .576 slugging
percentage.

• Pettibone in the Spotlight
For the second consecutive week, sophomore righty Austin Pettibone was a nominee
for Big West Pitcher of the Week after a throwing a 7.1 inning, 0 R gem in a 6-1 win over
USF. He ranks in the conference Top-10 in wins (2nd, 2), ERA (5th, 0.68) and IP (7th, 13.1).

• American Boys
Following their stellar 2012 seasons, a pair of Gauchos were selected as Preseason All-
Americans. In December, sophomore lefty Andrew Vasquez was named to the Second
Team by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association after recording a 1.93 ERA
as a freshman, the fourth best full-season ERA in school history. Junior SS Brandon Trinkwon
was named to the Baseball America Second-Team after hitting .347 as a sophomore
and starting the Cape Cod League All-Star Game. Brandon was also noted as the top
defensive infielder in college baseball.

• Gauchos Over the Air
UCSB Athletics and the Santa Barbara News Press radio will broadcast a vast majority of
UCSB Baseball's games this season, with 30 games being carried over the air by AM 1290
and online through UCSBgauchos.com and another 17 games airing exclusively online.
