Gaucho Baseball Featured on ESPN This Season

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – For the first time in over two decades, the UC Santa Barbara baseball team will be featured on television and will make its inaugural appearance on the ESPN family of networks this season.

The Gauchos' game at UC Irvine on Sunday, May 6 will be televised on ESPNU with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. It will mark the first time since the 1990 season that UCSB has been featured on either a regional or national TV network.

UCSB, led by new head coach Andrew Checketts, opens its season on Friday, Feb. 17 against two-time national champion Oregon State at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium and has a terrific home schedule that includes past national champs Cal State Fullerton, Pepperdine and USC.

Space is still available for Friday night's dinner which kicks off the 2012 Baseball Reunion Weekend. The dinner, which will be held at Earl Warren Showgrounds, will begin at 5:30 p.m. and include Checketts and Foresters Manager Bill Pintard. During the evening's events, Pintard will induct the 2012 Foresters Hall of Fame class, which includes UCSB alum Sean Luft (1989-90) and the evening will feature Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle as the keynote speaker. The night will also include numerous Foresters and Gauchos alumni in attendance.

Saturday will be an exclusive day for Gauchos family and friends with the first annual Gaucho 9 Golf Classic at Glenn Annie Golf
Club. Registration for the shotgun start tournament begins at 10 a.m. and space is extremely limited. Golf is free to those who have joined the Gaucho9. Contact Christina Baglas at to RSVP or for more information.
