After three long days at the A3 Performance Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego, the Gaucho men emerge on top and the women finish in third behind San Diego State University and UCLA. Stellar performances in the breaststroke, IM, and sprint freestyle events helped the Gauchos speed past their competition and put up some of the best times of the season.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Behind Ali Barbeau’s career-high 22 kills and a comeback in the third set, the Gauchos forced Hawai’i into five sets, but the Rainbow Wahine did just enough to escape the Thunderdome with a 3-2 victory on Friday night.

After Day 2 of the A3 Performance Invitational the Gaucho men are on a run and no one seems to be able to catch them. UCSB’s men’s swimming team scored second or first in every event of the second day of racing, giving them a 400 point lead over the rest of the field. The Gaucho women totaled 606 points at the end of the day, sitting them in third behind San Diego State and UCLA.

UCSB Hosts The Master's College in Home Opener Saturday, Takes Holiday Trip to Great Alaska Shootout
UCSB will host The Master’s College on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome. It will be the Gauchos’ first official home game of the season and the homestand will start and end there. Following the game against the Mustangs, they will travel to the Great Alaska Shootout where they will face Washington State on Thanksgiving night in the first round of the eight-team tournament. UCSB’s second round opponent will be either Mercer or Rice and in the third round it will be either Colorado State, Missouri State, Pacific or Alaska-Anchorage.

UCSB Closes Out Regular Season with Hawai’i, Cal Poly
UCSB saw its three-match winning streak end this weekend with back-to-back 3-0 losses to Cal State Northridge and No. 20 Long Beach State. The Gauchos could not pick up the season sweep of the Matadors, as they previously dominated CSUN in the teams’ previous matchup in the Thunderdome on Oct. 18. The first set had a tight 26-24 finish, but the Matadors would complete the match in straight sets thanks to its .319 hitting percentage. The 49ers protected their undefeated conference record (12-0) and are now 22-4 overall.
