Throwers Shine at Rainy Triton Invite
LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Gauchos sent a small contingent of throwers to the Triton Invite at UC San Diego, Friday and Saturday in search of long throws. Over 1,500 athletes were in attendance, some from across the globe, hoping for strong winds and sunny conditions. The winds were there. The sun was a different story. Regardless, Albert Hughes led the team with his 201'3 hammer throw, placing fourth in a field of 48 throwers.

No. 14 UCSB Heads to Hawaii for Big West Tournament
No. 14 UC Santa Barbara (13-15, 2-3) travels to Honolulu, Hawaii for the Big West Tournament where they face off against the No. 8 UC Davis Aggies (18-12, 2-3) Friday night. The Gauchos are coming off an 8-7 victory over Long Beach State in their final regular season matchup. UCD finished their impressive season winning 10 of its final 13 games ending with a 10-6 win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Santa Barbra knocked off UC Davis in their only match of the regular season by a score of 7-5 in Davis thanks in large to five goals from Camila Schafer, including a hat trick in the third quarter. In playing at neutral sites, UCSB has a winning record at 8-7, while UCD holds a 6-7 mark.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The No. 3 seeded Gauchos downed the No. 6 Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, 4-0 in Indian Wells on Thursday to advance to a Big West semifinals showdown against No. 2 UC Davis on Friday. In the 4-0 win, UC Santa Barbara seized the momentum with a big victory in doubles and strong play in singles to triumph against Hawaii.

The Gauchos will send a small unit of throwers to UC San Diego for the Triton Invite while the rest of the team trains through the weekend. Albert Hughes, the #1 ranked Big West hammer thrower will headline a UCSB group of mostly discus and hammer throwers. Taking advantage of the piping Pacific winds, UCSD will field a world class throws field this weekend as throwers from all levels will gather in search of big marks.

UCSB Looks to End Losing Skid at Hawai’i
A three game sweep at the hands of UC Davis ended UCSB’s six-game homestand last weekend. While Emily Brucelas had an outstanding weekend in batting .600 and slugging for .900, bolstered by a two-run homer in game on, the Gauchos struggled getting runners across home plate. Despite the team hitting .348 through the series, 29 Gaucho runners were left on base in the three-game set.
