San Diego State leadoff hitter Steven Pallares hit a third inning home run, scored three runs, and stole home in the eighth to score the game-winning run as the fourth-seeded Aztecs topped UC Santa Barbara 4-3 Friday night in the host's opening game at the Lake Elsinore, Calif. Regional at Storm Stadium.

Hughes and Johnson Qualify for the NCAA Championships
Albert Hughes pulled out a miraculous final attempt throw in the hammer- a mark of 208'3, qualifying him for the NCAA Final. Jessica Johnson qualified in the 400m, finishing in 52.93, earning an automatic bid to Eugene by way of a top three finish in her semi-final race.

Johnson and Tsolis Advance in Rounds on Day One at NCAA West Regional
Jessica Johnson advanced to the semi-final in the 400m after winning her heat with a strong surge over the final 25m. Tori Tsolis used a strong kick over the final 100m to move into an automatic qualifying position in the 1,500m. Both runners will compete in a semi-final field of 24 athletes vying for a top-twelve finish, and a coveted bid into the NCAA Final.

The Gauchos are scheduled to compete five newly crowned Big West Champions at the University of Texas in search of a coveted top-twelve finish and a spot in the NCAA Final. Four UCSB athletes enter the meet with a top-twenty ranking in the NCAA West Region.
