Bryan Guijarro and Anthony Ortolan easily outran the rest of the field to finish 1-2 and lead the UC Santa Barbara cross country team to a 15-40 win over Blue-Green Rival Cal Poly in the annual Lagoon Race on Saturday.

Moreno, Goyette Finish 1-2 But Cal Poly's Depth Wins Out, 25-34
UC Santa Barbara senior Dani Moreno easily cruised to a first-place finish in the women's race at the annual Lagoon Run on Saturday, clocking a 17:21.91 over the 5k course to finish nearly 30 second ahead of teammate Maxine Goyette, but Cal Poly's depth was too much as the Mustangs won the Blue-Gree Rivalry dual meet, 25-34.

Pair of First Half Goals Secure 2-1 Season-Opening Win For No. 15 Gauchos
Opening the season at Blackbaud Stadium – the first privately-funded professional soccer stadium in the country – sophomore winger Ismaila Jome put in a display worthy of the pro ranks by providing assists on a pair of first half goals to pace No. 15 UC Santa Barbara to a 2-1 victory over Charleston in the first of the team's two scheduled games in the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Tournament.

Gauchos Drop 2-0 Lightning-Shortened Decision at Dayton
The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team was handed its first defeat of the season on Friday when it dropped a 2-0 decision at the University of Dayton. The match was called in the 87th minute because of lightning.

UCSB Opens Season at Rams Volleyball Classic
While UCSB has not faced Marquette or Virginia Commonwealth, it did play Colorado State in last year’s Pepperdine Invitational in the second week of the season. The Gauchos fell to the Rams 3-1 that weekend. Colorado State returns three of the four players who reached double kills figures against the Gauchos last year, while UCSB will have Barbeau and Spindt who recorded 12 and 11 kills in that match, respectively.

he UCSB women’s soccer team had the ideal start to their regular season last weekend as it defeated Cleveland State (3-0) and Southern Utah (2-0) at home. The last time the Gauchos opened the season 2-0 was in 2010 when they actually opened with a perfect 3-0 mark.
