Hall of Fame History 

The UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame was originally created in conjunction with the UCSB Alumni Association. Its selection committee consisted of administrators from athletics and several other departments on campus, as well members of the Santa Barbara community who either coached or competed for the Gauchos. 

Prior to the construction of the Intercollegiate Athletics Building, the Hall of Fame inductees were represented with plaques that adorned the walls of the foyer in Robertson Gymnasium, but in 2008, the Phil Womble Hall of Champions was unveiled in the lobby of the ICA Building and it now houses the Hall of Fame with the story of each inductee told in a computer kiosk that is housed amid the display cases of Gaucho paraphernalia and memories. Each member of the Hall of Fame is also recognized with their name and sport on the walls that surround the computer kiosk. 

The selection committee now consists of athletics department administrators (currently both deputy athletics directors and chief communications officer) and chair of the letterwinners executive board, The Gaucho Order. The administrators and chair of the letterwinners board receive input from the community, alumni and media for nominations. Nominations are submitted to the athletics director for final approval and induction.
