UCSB Athletics Raises Nearly $1.3 Million During 2012-13 Fiscal Year

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - This past year the annual giving arm to support UCSB athletics - The Gaucho Fund - recorded another successful fundraising year. At the closing of the 2013 fiscal year, almost $1.3 million has been raised for athletics led by a record number of donors at the unique Living Scholar level of giving which pairs donors and student-athletes.

The 2013 fundraising effort will be second only to 2006-07 when $2.1 million was raised for athletics, highlighted by a $1 million gift. Every gift to the Gaucho Fund is part of the campuses successful "Campaign for UC Santa Barbara" which is approaching its goal of raising $1 billion.

Currently there are nearly 900 donors to Gaucho Fund, which is already a 12.5% increase over last year, with 90 at the Living Scholar level.

If you are a former or current donor to athletics at UCSB please make sure that you, your friends, and your family have made their gifts for this year. If you have, we thank you for your continued support.

The Gaucho Fund allows donors to earmark a gift to the sport of their choice or to general student-athlete success fund, which supports all 500 student-athletes. Each of UCSB’s 20 programs covers between 5-10% of their annual expenses with funds raised from donations. These generous gifts cover some important support services such as scholarships, summer school and various program resources.

"I am so proud of our alumni, family and friends for their continued support in providing the resources vital in maintaining and improving each of our programs,” said Director of Athletics Mark Massari. "The support of those who believe in this school and our young men and women is tremendous. Gaucho Fund donors invest in their lives, literally. It's such a wonderful way to give."

The Gaucho Fund is led by Andy Fee, Senior Associate Athletics for Development and Principal Gifts to Athletics, Christina Baglas, Assistant Athletics Director, Evan Stein, Marketing/Events Coordinator and Andy Graham who coordinates aquatics campaign, letterwinners and baseball's Gaucho9 effort.

Season ticket sales for soccer have been brisk and today are pacing 150% ahead of last season. The Gauchos have led the nation in attendance since 2008 and own several NCAA attendance records.
