Head coach Andrew Checketts and closer Dillon Tate from the UCSB baseball team will be joined by head coach Rick McLaughlin and junior outside hitter Weston Nielsen of the men's volleyball team as the featured guests on this week's Talk'n Gauchos radio show, which will air live on AM 1290 KZSB from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
As always, the show will broadcast live from the Beachside Bar Café on beautiful Goleta Beach and will be hosted by The Voice of the Gauchos, Gerry Fall.
An online audio simulcast of the program can be found on UCSB's listen live page.
Checketts and the baseball team are currently ranked No.
14 in the nation, their seventh consecutive week amongst the
top-25. The Gauchos are coming off of a series win against Cal
State Fullerton, their first series win at home over the Titans
since the 1985 season. This weekend, they will travel to Long Beach
State for a three-game set beginning on Thursday night.
Tate, UCSB's sophomore closer, is having a spectacular
season at the back of the bullpen. With eight saves, he is one away
from tying the program's freshman record. The flamethrower has
accrued a 0.92 ERA this year 25 strikeouts in just 19.2 innings
After sweeping Cal Baptist and upsetting MPSF regular season champs BYU last week, McLaughlin and the men's volleyball team secured the fourth seed in the MPSF Tournament to earn the program's first postseason home match since the 2007 season. The Gauchos will welcome fifth-seeded UCLA to Rob Gym this Saturday night in the MPSF Tournament Quarterfinals. Tickets can be purchased by calling 805-893-UCSB.
Nielsen was a key figure in UCSB's two wins last season,
striking 30 kills on an astounding .542 hitting percentage. For his
efforts, he was named the MPSF Player of the Week.
