UCSB Has 25 Student-Athletes Named to 2017 Big West Fall All-Academic Team

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A total of 25 UC Santa Barbara student-athletes were named to the 2017 Big West Fall All-Academic Team, it was announced by the league office.

UCSB finished narrowly behind UC Davis for the most honorees conference-wide, as the Aggies had 27 players named.

To earn Big West All-Academic status, students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is being given (true freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible), and compete in at least 50% of the team's contests. Men's and women's cross country student-athletes can fulfill the participation requirement by competing in the Big West Championship.

Among UCSB's programs, women's volleyball led the way with eight honorees, the most of any Big West volleyball program. Practically every eligible player on the roster earned Academic All-Big West; the seven who weren't named were either first-year players or missed the season due to injury.

Women's soccer was next up with six honorees, while men's cross country had five players listed – finishing one behind Cal Poly for the most honorees in that sport. Women's cross country (four) and men's soccer (three) registered student-athlete on the prestigious team as well.

A total of 191 student-athletes from the league's nine member teams (and one affiliate) were named to the squad. To view the complete 2017 Fall Academic All-Big West Team, click here
